Photo Gallery and Show Review: Bella Kay in New York

Words and Photos by Faith Chapman

Bella Kay is an American indie pop singer-songwriter currently on a headlining tour in support her debut album, My Reckless Abandon. Brooklyn Steel, which located in New York, is one of those venues that has built a stellar reputation in the music industry. The space was packed for the sold-out New York stop of The Reckless Tour.

Hailey Picardi, an up and coming singer-songwriter, opened for the evening. Picardi opened her set with “Chaotic,” a track that includes strong instrumentals and vocals and explores the unhealthy cycle of craving a chaotic relationship. Picardi continued her set with a few of her songs that she’s released, including “Black or White,” “Hide and Seek,” and her breakout hit, “Double Edged Sword.” Picardi has a way of commanding the stage that leaves the audience encapsulated in the world she has created for her songs.

As the stage lights dimmed darker and the house music faded, the fans at Brooklyn Steel started screaming excitedly welcoming Bella Kay as she walked out to start her set. The set started with her song, “Say it Say,” which was such a good start, as it sets the tone well. She then transitioned to her next song, “Mindf*ck,” which explores the painful hope that a cheating partner is thinking of her.

Kay continued her set with songs like“Promise,” “Steady,” “Swu,” alongside a cover of Lizzy McAlpine’s hit song “ceilings.” Fans learned at the concert that McAlpine is one of Kay’s musical inspirations. Kay ended the set with “Blur,” as well as her most popular song, “Iloveitiloveitiloveit.” As this final song began, excited fans screamed the lyrics along with Kay.

The space was filled with fans’ intense emotions throughout the whole concert, as both Kay and Picardi truly moved the audience with their emotionally raw music. Go and support both artists as they continue to write music and perform!
