You may know Claire Rosinkranz from her song “Backyard Boy” that went viral in 2020, or from her most recent album My Lover. She just brought the tour for this album to Chicago at beloved venue, Thalia Hall. Although Chicago has seen Rosinkranz recently from her opening slot for Maroon 5 and a Lollapalooza aftershow, they haven’t seen her headline since 2023, so they were very ecstatic she made her comeback.
The show started quite interestingly, to the audience and the artist’s surprise, the band’s backing tracks were stolen before the show. Despite their best efforts, the band’s quick remake was not working properly. Rosinkranz kept the show moving by suggesting they perform acoustically, thinking they would have to do that for the whole show. She was upset, not only because she loves the show they created for this tour, but also because she thought she was letting down the fans. Funnily enough, the fans were far from upset, I think it actually made for a very special addition and something that was one of a kind for this show.
Luckily, after a few songs, the backtracks started working again! The fans were ecstatic and showed Rosinkranz and her band all the love for working on the fly through the interruption. Continuing on with “Kiss” and “Jayden,” Rosinkranz started moving more freely now that her tracks were back; dancing and interacting with the fans like nothing ever happened.
From the balcony, watching the fans dance with their loved ones and even with strangers, I could tell that Rosinkranz built a great fanbase with her songs – including ones about her chronic illness and how that’s affected both her career and love life. One fan even yelled, “Play ‘Hotel’!!,” to which she responded, “Wait, I’ve been waiting for someone to ask this!” “Hotel” is a fan favorite song from 2021 that she unfortunately took off the setlist for this tour, so fans were overjoyed when she added it to the end of the set.
Despite the happy ending, fans were still sad to see the show end. But no worries, as Rosinkranz reminded the fans that she would be back in just a couple months for her set at Lollapalooza! She also has an aftershow that same weekend to provide fans yet another chance to see her, as well as hear those first two songs with the back tracks as they were intended!
