Photo Gallery and Show Review: Carol Ades in Illinois

Words and Photos by Emmie Sweeting

Carol Ades just finished her Worst Person In The World tour, which made a stop in Chicago at Lincoln Hall. You may know Ades by her full name, Caroline Pennell, as she appeared on season 5 of The Voice and has writing credits for many well-known artists, including KATSEYE and Gracie Abrams. Now she goes by stage name, Carol Ades, to produce her own chill pop music. Her solo career began with her EP Through, and her most recent project is called Worst Person In The World

The show itself was intimate, allowing fans to truly connect with Ades and feel the energy flow through the room. Starting with the title track off the project and then going straight into “A Place You Can Meet Me,” Ades opened the show strong. Everyone in the room was immediately dancing and screaming along to all of the lyrics.

Later on in the set, Ades invited a fan on stage with her so they could dance during “Turns Out I’m Amazing.” Allowing the fan to cathartically scream how amazing she is despite her insecurities invited the rest of the crowd to do the same, which created a positive energy in the space.

Ades also brought out some friends of hers to perform live orchestral arrangements of some of her songs, including “26,” which she dedicated to a fan in the room who was turning 26 that day. This was a special treat for the Chicago fans who turned Carol’s already beautiful songs into something even more unique, helping them to remember the show for months to come.

Ades ended the show on an energetic note by playing her favorite song, “That’s My Girl.” During the tune, she screamed at the crowd excitedly, telling them to jump higher and dance more, which ensured that the show ended with a bang.
