When “The Final Hour” is Only Just the Beginning

Words by Katherine Cardinale

Laufey’s journey within the music industry has been nothing short of a major success story. From releasing her latest album, A Matter of Time, last August, to embarking on a world tour that stopped at famous arenas like Madison Square Garden and The O2 Arena, Laufey’s latest musical era has been packed with iconic moments. She has also released her first book, Mei Mei The Bunny. The book tells the story of a bunny whose dream is to make the world a happier place through her music. Mei Mei was already a well known “mascot” within Laufey’s world, but the creation of this book has brought her story to light in an entirely new way.

Early last month, Laufey released the deluxe edition of A Matter of Time, thus creating the 15-turned-19 track long record A Matter of Time: The Final Hour. The four, brand new songs explore darker and more complicated aspects of romantic relationships, with “Madwoman” being about a cursed relationship that feels wrong that the singer pursues regardless. This track acted as a promotional single for the deluxe record and was accompanied by a music video that starred Laufey alongside Megan Skiendel (KATSEYE), Alyssa Liu (Olympic figure skater), Lola Tung (actress), and Hudson Williams (actor).

In “How I Get,” Laufey explores feeling things you’ve never felt before for one person in particular. On the track, Laufey sings “Human nature is strange / I know you’re bad for me / And I never feel rage / At least not so easily / Has addiction come for me?” The song was first played on the Europe leg of the A Matter of Time Tour in Zürich, Switzerland, and it was officially released on February 25, 2026.

The third deluxe track, titled “I Wait, I Wait, I Wait,” is about how Laufey feels as though she should be accepting the negative things that are happening to her, including her partner’s falling out of love with her. The song features Laufey’s signature melancholy lyrics set to a slow, piano-dominant instrumental.

The final song on the deluxe album is “I’ll Forget About You (In Time),” another heartwrenching ballad about being stuck between moving on after a heartbreak and feeling broken about the relationship ending. The song emphasizes how much love can hurt and ends with the singer attempting to reassure herself that there is room for hope and to forget in the future.

These new songs may be “The Final Hour” of the A Matter of Time album, but it is clear that Laufey’s creative endeavors are not stopping anytime soon.
