This past weekend, Chrissy Chlapecka brought the opening night of her Girl On The Moon Tour to the largest space of Brooklyn’s Elsewhere, The Hall. The show featured lots of pink, glitter, and both incredible vocals and stage production from Chrissy.
The Girl on the Moon Tour, which was imagined, produced, and brought to life by Chrissy, is her first headline endeavor and is hitting major cities all across America. Chrissy first gained prominence on TikTok and has since evolved into an indie music artist, garnering thousands of fans and millions of streams in just the past few years. Her songs are empowering and inspiring, and some even reference iconic pieces of media such as The Phantom of the Opera. Her passion for music and human rights instantly becomes evident when attending one of her shows, as she has a big personality and uplifting voice.
Chrissy’s desire to establish a strong community goes beyond just the messages in her songs and her own headlining set. On each date of this tour, she has invited fellow performers to take the stage before her, making sure to specifically highlight women and LGBTQ+ performers. The New York date featured performances from the iconic local performers Malea Kimberly and Harsh Babe, and Luxx Noir London from Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Malea Kimberly kicked off the night with stunning live vocals followed by a captivating performance set to Doja Cat’s “Freak.” Her gorgeous silver outfit was complete with an ornate chandelier headpiece. She is originally from Nevada and moved to New York City at age 18 to chase her dreams. She is a model, singer, actress, director, and host, and was a perfect opener for the show, serving as an inspiration for everyone in the crowd that night.
Harsh Babe took the stage soon after and put on an incredible Wicked-inspired number set to “The Subway” by Chappell Roan. The performance was interactive and emotional, complete with a gorgeous Glinda gown and witch on a broomstick “flying” through the crowd (courtesy of Harsh Babe’s fellow performer and friend, I’m Baby). The number also featured other local talent, which emphasizes the inclusive yet tight-knit community that Harsh Babe has created throughout her time in Brooklyn. Harsh Babe’s second, equally campy yet emotional number was set to Lily Allen’s “Pussy Palace.”
Luxx Noir London’s electrifying set featured live vocals and original songs, including a couple off her forthcoming sophomore album, Wings. Luxx opened her set with the upbeat fan favorite single, “Worship,” which set the tone for the rest of her time onstage. She also played her brand new single, “Cigarette,” and debuted “Cherry Red Mustang” off Wings. Luxx has an incredible stage presence and it is truly a joy to watch her perfume every time that I see her. She hasn’t stopped since her time on Drag Race, and it is evident that her strong work ethic and ambition have paid off through her success and ever-growing fanbase. Be sure to presave Wings ahead of its release next Friday!
After these three openers set the tone for the night and excited the audience, it was time for Chrissy to perform. She hit the stage with a dramatic performance of “Brain,” which is featured on her latest project, Christine. Every song on this album was played live, including fan favorites like “Aria” and “Passionfruit,” which was exciting for all of the fans in the room. The numbers were perfectly choreographed and Chrissy’s powerful voice echoed throughout the room during each song. Some other musical highlights of the night included the playing of older songs like “Cherry Do You Love Me” and “I’m So Hot” (which was the encore), as well as the unreleased songs, “Spite” and “Andromeda.” It was especially impressive to hear the three key changes in “Aria” live. However, the entertainment didn’t stop there. Chrissy pulled out all of the stops for these shows, including full costume changes, outfit reveals, and themed interludes between every song on the setlist. This helped the audience become fully immersed in the experience and drop them right into Chrissy’s intergalactic, sapphic world. These things, combined with the intimate space, created an unforgettable concert for all attendees.
Although this was one of Chrissy’s biggest headline shows to date, she’s only just getting started. Her newest song, “Andromeda,” drops this Friday, and her headline tour is continuing across the States throughout this entire month and the next. You can purchase tickets to most of her upcoming shows here, but be sure to do so quickly, as all dates are rapidly selling out!
