Last month, the multifaceted indie pop songstress ella jane announced two special bicoastal shows ahead of the release of her latest single, “10-Blade.” In her Instagram post talking about the shows, ella stated that they would be “ intimate, fun, and may contain lots of new music 😌😗.” Those sentiments definitely rang true at the New York concert at Brooklyn’s own Baby’s All Right.
Laura Elliott opened the evening with a variety of original songs and a cover of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers, which definitely stood out as a set highlight, with the audience singing along to the entire second verse (which Laura pointed out to be exactly the same as the first one).
During the middle of her set, ella, who is a New York native who has since relocated to Los Angeles, noted that her first ever headline show was also at Baby’s All Right in 2021. Since then, she has opened for artists such as Peter McPoland and embarked on her own headline tour in the fall of 2022. As someone who has not seen her live since then, attending ella’s show this past week was a solid reminder of her talent as an performing artist and songwriter. I got to hear newer songs like “What Are You Doing Here?” and a personal favorite of mine, “Dead Weight,” for the first time live, as well as older hits like “Time On” and “AUGUST IS A FEVER.” ella’s setlist was a greatest hits one of sorts, with her curating the perfect mix of past and present releases.
ella also invited her friends, fellow musicians August Ponthier and Kevin Atwater, to sing with her onstage during “Seattle,” a guitar-led ballad that was released earlier this year. The song, which is melancholy in nature, took on a new meaning when performed with others. The audience also quietly sang along, which made it a memorable moment for everyone in the room.
After wrapping up the main set with the upbeat pop song “I Wanna,” ella returned to the stage to perform the fan favorite, “Calling Card,” and her biggest song to day, “nothing else i could do.” The latter has amassed over 43M streams on Spotify alone and was featured on the hit TV show, Heartstopper.
ella’s intimate concert in Los Angeles is on November 16, 2025 at the Moroccan Lounge. You can purchase tickets for that show here. She’s definitely not an act to miss!
