Photo Gallery And Show Review: Mint Green in Pennsylvania

On May 10, alternative rock band Mint Green opened for rock artist Worriers at South Street’s bar and venue Nikki Lopez. The four-piece owned the stage with a mix of songs from their debut album All Girls Go To Heaven, older EPs, and a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.”

Lead singer Ronnica’s microphone, tank top, and braids matched in a vibrant green, in true form to the band’s name. A cartoon shark sticker waved at the audience from her light pink electric guitar. Guitarist Rachel’s pedal case was painted with abstract faces floating through nature, while drummer Daniel sported a shirt simply reading “DAMN” in – you guessed it – bright green lettering. Rapid rhythms from bassist Danny underscored the performance.

Ronnica stepped off the stage to sing with the crowd early in the set, and her formidable vocals cascaded with raw emotion from the bridge of “Make Me Stay” back into the chorus. She introduced “What I’m Feeling” as a time for everyone to let out their feelings about having a crush, and the crowd was clapping and singing along by the time the song reached the final repeated line of “you oughta know.” Lyrics were also shouted back during the band’s heartfelt “Creep” cover.

This was the first show of Worriers’ final tour as a musician, and they performed to a receptive full house of young children, older couples, and everyone in between. A highlight of their set was “They / Them / Theirs,” which they prefaced with a passionate speech about the state of transgender rights in the U.S. and sang with an anger and grit beyond what can be heard in the studio track.

Mint Green will be joining Worriers on the rest of their headlining east coast and Canadian dates throughout the coming week.
