Show Review: Em Beihold in New York

Words by Katherine Cardinale

Singer-songwriter Em Beihold surprised fans early last month with the announcement of an intimate, mini headline tour featuring just herself and her piano. The tour is meant to be an introduction to some of the unreleased songs off her forthcoming debut album and was supplemented with some fan favorites. She was joined by indie artist e.woolf, a singer-songwriter and producer who has released just one song so far, titled “single hollywood tear.” This was the opening song of her set, and it was followed by other original songs like “Mush” and “Wish,” as well as a cover of Sabrina Carpenter’s hit single, “Please Please Please.” While on stage, e.woolf’s vocals shone through and were accompanied by her skilled guitar playing.

Much to her fans’ excitement, Em Beihold took the stage next at precisely 10PM. Em first gained traction on TikTok, where her song “Numb Little Bug” acted as a catalyst for her signing to Republic Records. She opened her set with “Nobody Else,” and the entire crowd sang along. Em is a skilled artist, and her professionalism while playing a show featuring many unreleased songs was unmatched. One of the highlights of her set was a cover of Stephen Sanchez’s viral hit, “Until I Found You.” The song translates beautifully to an acoustic piano version and made for a special moment between Em and her fans. Em also invited e.woolf back onstage midway through the show to perform Exorcist, which has yet to be released. Their vocals blended together beautifully and the audience listened respectfully and in awe.

Em closed out her set with Egg in the Backseat’s “Numb Little Bug,” which was a beautiful way to wrap up an intimate and fan-focused event such as this one. The super small semi-secret piano tour concludes this week with three dates in California. If you’re a fan eager to hear some of Em’s new music ahead of its release, be sure to grab your tickets here!
