The Ivy and Lyncs released their collaborative single “Don’t Fall Asleep To This,” back in February, and in late March they kicked off their tour together and have hit over twenty cities in the U.S. so far! Earlier this month, they made a stop at Brooklyn’s quaint bar and music venue, Alphaville, to play a packed show.
New York-based, “androgynous-pop” musician Zola Simone played the first set of the evening, and her infectious energy and stunning vocals got the crowd going instantly. Some of the highlights of her set were her dry humor and live renditions of original songs such as “Like A Dog” and “Pirouette,” which are both featured on her sophomore album, Kaleidoscope.
Lyncs, the musical project of Jacqueline Hynes, went on next. Lyncs is an LA-based indie-pop singer songwriter, and her music blends catchy melodies, electronic sound, and dreamlike choruses to create a unique discography that is reminiscent of artists like The 1975, Lorde, and The Japanese House. Lyncs’s music is self written and produced; it translated very well onstage. Her set at Alphaville was captivating and successfully demonstrated why she is a rising artist in the indie-pop scene.
Indie-pop act The Ivy went on just a few moments later. The duo consists of Shawn Abhari on bass and synth and Wyatt Clem on lead vocals and guitar. They are Tulsa-based and first met at The Academy of Contemporary Music in Oklahoma City. Since their official debut as a duo in 2017, they have been releasing music that is both introspective and fresh and features impeccable production with top tier songwriting. Their show in New York opened with their 2022 single, “Hurts Just Right,” and featured songs released throughout their discography. Some of the highlights of their set included a collaborative performance of “Don’t Fall Asleep To This,” in which they invited Lyncs back onstage to join them, and a cover of Clairo’s fan-favorite single, “4EVER.” The show came to an end after a fun rendition of the duo’s catchy breakout single, “The Gold.”
The Ivy and Lyncs are wrapping up their joint tour at the end of this month, but they are both acts to watch! Be sure to keep up with them to see what’s coming next.
