Maddie Regent Releases New Single And Announces Debut Album

Words by Jaz Wilkins

Canadian pop singer Maddie Regent recently released her debut single “The wolf” from her debut album On the phone with my mom, which releases May 16th, 2025. Regent’s music career started at the tender age of twelve when she started writing music in order to navigate her way through the complex years of tween and teendom. Since then, Maddie has been using her music as an outlet for her emotions and navigating her way through them with a pen and paper. Over the years, Regent began to fine-tune and define herself in the indie music scene, carving her own path to success through her raw vulnerability and ability to capture emotions in a unique yet powerful way that appeals to her listeners.

“The wolf” is a standout track that builds on Maddie Regent’s previous EPs, MISS REGENT and Girl of Your Dreams. Co-produced by her boyfriend and creative partner, Cade Hoppe, the song sets the stage for her debut album. Nostalgic yet euphoric, The song draws inspiration from the 1980s while blending it with a contemporary, modern sound. The sound itself gives viewers a sense of familiarity whilst fusing it with Regent’s forward thinking artistry and showcases her ability to bridge the gap between two separate era’s of music so seamlessly.

With its infectious pop energy, punchy drumbeat, and vulnerable yet direct lyrics, “The wolf” offers listeners a glimpse into the emotional depth that will define Regent’s upcoming album. Regent’s words paint a clear picture of what it is like having to grapple with the betrayal of someone that you deeply care for, reflecting the struggle of moving forward while continuing to be haunted by the past, a feeling many listeners will find relatable based on their own life circumstances. Lines such as “I don’t wanna be afraid of you, I don’t wanna be afraid of you, don’t know where you go, wearing sheep clothes, but you’re still cold,” display Regent’s raw yet clever lyricism as the chorus reimagines the phrase “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” bringing the song’s themes of deception and resilience into the limelight.

The track explores the complexities of facing someone who was once close but has now become a source of betrayal. In an interview with The Luna Collective, Regent shared how she sought to capture the tension and vulnerability of such moments, channeling those feelings into this upcoming album. “The wolf” is now available to stream on all major platforms, and Regent’s next release, On the phone with my mom, is set to drop on May 16th. The album is set to solidify Regent’s place in the contemporary pop industry with this being her most anticipated album yet. “The wolf” sets very high expectations for the full album and will mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Regent’s music career, and we at Loudspeaker Collective can’t wait to hear what she has in store for the future!
