The multi-talented superstar Sasha Colby recently headlined a night full of dancing and more at 3 Dollar Bill in Brooklyn, New York, and it was not an event to miss!
STONED with Sasha Colby was organized by Alexis Kmieck and is part of a series of “STONED” events at 3 Dollar Bill. The event on January 18th featured multiple drag performers and DJs, including Jazmine, Dev Doee, Eros Hedonista, and Arra. The hosts of the night were Barbie Swae, Syrennara, Sawcy, and Paul Meidinger. Other highlights included in-venue popups sponsored by local businesses and a Meet and Greet with Sasha Colby herself.
Native Hawaiian Sasha Colby has been performing ever since she was a child and is the winner of both Miss Continental 2012 and Season 15 of Rupaul’s Drag Race. She is part of the legendary drag family House of Colby and the drag mother of Kerri Colby and Chappell Roan. In addition to being one of the world’s most famous drag queens, Sasha is also an accomplished actress, dancer, and LGBTQ+ advocate.
Local drag queen Jazmine moved to New York City a few years ago and is originally from Portugal. She has been doing drag since 2019 and is known for her makeup looks, fashion, and stunning performances. Jazmine makes regular appearances at many venues in New York, including 3 Dollar Bill.
Dev Doee is also a New York based local artist who has been performing in drag for just around five years. She was originally trained in dance, but shifted her performance towards drag in 2020. Since then, she has starred in a one woman show and won the title of 2023 Glam Awards Breakthrough Artist of the Year.
The night at 3 Dollar Bill started out with a Sasha Colby Meet and Greet. Fans who purchased the Meet and Greet upgrade were given Pride themed wristbands at the door and let into the main room of the venue a few minutes early for a chance to meet your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen. Sasha took her time to speak to each fan and take lots of photos. I was lucky enough to have been able to participate in this part of the night, and Sasha was as sweet and fierce as ever. Getting to tell Sasha about how much I value her art and ability to inspire others was an invaluable experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. One person even brought a couple of signs to pose with that referenced Sasha’s time on Drag Race, which garnered a positive reaction from other fans in the room.
After the Meet and Greet, all event attendees got to watch the queens perform. Memorable moments from the drag sets included Dev Doee in both pickle cosplay and eating pickles during her first performance, a high-energy lip sync to “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse by Jazmine, and Sasha Colby baring it all and performing to Jorja Smith’s “Little Things,” which was a perfect choice for the theme of the night. Later on, host Barbie Swae put on an electrifying performance to “Work Bitch” by Britney Spears, which brought on many cheers from the crowd. Each of the queens’ performances showcased their ability to captivate a live audience, and they paired their talents with beautiful outfits and gorgeous makeup. The performances were well received by fans, who excitedly held out tips for the queens and danced along to the songs.
