Katie Gavin recently headlined a sold out concert at Bowery Ballroom in New York as part of her first-ever solo tour in support of her debut album, What A Relief. Katie is most well known for being one third of the indie pop band MUNA, but her most recent touring run was a stark departure from her shows with bandmates Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson. What A Relief leans into an indie folk sound, and Katie’s headlining set also opted for a cozy, warm vibe. The stage was complete with a teapot and “candle” lamp, and Katie played multiple instruments throughout her set, including a guitar, piano, and violin. Katie played the entirety of her new album, plus one unreleased song titled “She Gives Me Feelings.” Unlike the high energy that dominates MUNA shows, the audience respectfully nodded along and listened for the majority of this set. Katie also took the time to speak with the crowd and talk about the times that she’s played Bowery Ballroom with MUNA, as well as her friendship with the opener for this particular show, Liam Benzvi. Katie releasing a solo record was one of the best musical surprises of 2024 and this tour was a must-see for any fan!
