Loudspeaker Collective recently participated in an °1824 press conference with Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler to discuss the recent release of their first album, brent iii and highly anticipated joint tour. Although both of these musicians have released their own solo music, they are good friends and have created three joint projects together, the most recent one having been released this year.
During the °1824 press conference, publications were allowed to ask questions about Jeremy and Chelsea’s musical journey together, their musical inspirations for all three brent projects, how they approach their creative processes both together and solo, and more. It was great to hear all about what it’s like to be a recording and touring musician directly from Jeremy and Chelsea, and it was especially interesting to learn more about their friendship and how it has affected their careers.
When asked about the role that friendship has played in their music making journey and how they inspire one another, Jeremy and Chelsea both attested to the fact comfort and vulnerability with each other are vital aspects of their collaborative process. Jeremy reiterated that because they have a strong friendship and are knowledgeable about each others’ boundaries, the duo’s dynamic can be very honest and sincere. Throughout the conference, they continued to sing each other’s praises, with Chelsea stating that Jeremy has made her a better musician, friend, teammate, and collaborator, and Jeremy mentioning how much he has learned from Chelsea both musically and personally.
The duo’s close-knit friendship has allowed them to explore themes like romantic love in their joint songs. Jeremy stated that it is therapeutic to vent and write about feelings, and the other person is able to support this on a personal and musical level. Both individuals are able to bring their own perspectives in order to complete a full project, and this is evident with songs like the lead single of brent iii, “A-frame,” which was started by Chelsea but only completed right before the album was due with Jeremy’s help.
The songs on Jeremy and Chelsea’s brent trilogy also serve as safe spaces for fans dealing with similar life experiences. Jeremy hopes that their music helps people dealing with specific issues discussed in their songs, and Chelsea said that being able to make earnest music together makes it more relatable for others.
brent iii is a beautiful third installment to Jeremy and Chelsea’s discography as a duo, and although it took a while for them to spend enough time to create together, Jeremy states that this full-length album was a dream goal of theirs and he is extremely grateful that it came together when it did. When asked about potential future collaborations, Chelsea stated that it is difficult to envision a world where she and Jeremy would never work together again in some capacity, whether that be together or on each others’ solo endeavors.
Although this conference was just around one hour long, it became instantly clear that these two musicians are passionate about their music together and have found deep solace in their friendship. brent iii is out now on all streaming platforms, as well as wherever you buy your music. We definitely recommend checking it out!
